300K Brevet Prep-GPS Route
On Saturday Bruce and I are going to ride the PCH Randos 300K Brevet. I’m not exactly sure why, because both of us feel like we’re in over our heads. However, the members of the PCH Rando Google Group are very motivating, and if you ask them if you can do it, they only seem to answer “YES!”. So with some reservations, but a lot of excitement we’ve signed up. It’s only 300k right? That’s not too far, only 185 miles!!!
Since I’m a GPS geek, I knew I wanted to upload the route. Thankfully one of the members shared some GPS tracks on the RidewithGPS.com website. So I downloaded them, but only the “track” file worked, and not the “route”. Well, it took me all night, but I traced the “track” and created the “route” for Saturday’s ride. I would have been done earlier, if I would’ve noticed that I was using the 200K and not the 300K sooner. Oh well, I figured out some new tricks along the way. So now that I have the route all done and ready I uploaded it to the GPS and it looks like it worked. Not all of the waypoints transferred, but the important ones did, so that’s all that matters.
Here’s an overview of the area that we’ll be riding.
So now that the GPS is ready to go, tomorrow night I’ll turn my attention to the bike. Which bike yet, I’m not sure. There’s a chance of rain on Saturday, so that’ll be a determining factor I think.
I better get some rest!

wow, that is some serious mileage. good luck man!
