300K Brevet Prep-Fenders

by Errin on February 19, 2010

With a chance of rain in the forecast for Saturday, I prefer have to fenders on the bike. I ordered some fenders from Velo-Orange a few weeks ago for the Salsa Casseroll, but never got around to installing them. So last night I set out to get it done, and have the bike ready for some rain.

I got the front fender on the bike, but when I install the wheel I’m getting some rubbing. I’m not sure where I’ve gone wrong, so I’ve contacted Velo Orange for some help. Hopefully they’ll be able to point me in the right direction.

I started to install the rear fender, but it wasn’t going smoothly either, so I decided to call it a night. Oh well, I guess I should’ve started this project weeks ago, instead of hours before the ride.

So now I’ve changed my mind. I was hoping to ride the Casseroll because it’s the lighter bike, but with the threat of rain, and lack of fenders, I think it’s going to have to be the LHT. The combination of fenders and a pannier to carry some rain gear are making it the obvious choice. I was just hoping to avoid the weight penalty of the LHT, but the LHT it is! Now for just the final prep before the brevet!
