My Top 7 Bike/Photo Blogs

by Errin on March 9, 2010

I have a thing for bikes, and I have a thing for photos. So when the two come together, it’s, well let’s just say I can waste hours of time in front of the ‘puter. I’ve been practicing taking better photos this past year, and these are the blogs that I look at for inspiration. You’ll see that they are all different, their common thread being bikes of course. Some of them are full of adventure too. They are listed alphabetically, I don’t want to play favorites!

Aaron Teasdale’s Blog
Aaron works for Adventure Cyclist, which is a great organization. He’s a frequent contributor to the magazine, and his photos show what’s possible when traveling by bike in the great outdoors. He also has a Fargo and uses it on his trips, so he must be cool right?

Adventure Monkey
Eric is a bicyclist from Kansas. Another Fargo rider that knows how to use a camera. He rides even when it’s cold out, and I guess it’s really cold in Kansas. Whenever the temps get down to the 40s here in sunny socal, I just think of the Adventure Monkey out there riding in the snow. He’s got something really cool up his sleeve, so keep an eye on his blog.

The Confessions of Captain Swallowtail
This is the blog of Eric of Epic Designs. When he’s not making some very cool bike luggage, he’s out on cool adventures with his dog. I don’t think there are many people that live in a more scenic part of the world. Thankfully, he takes the time to share them with us. Admittedly, a lot of his photos are of hikes or ski trips, but there’s enough bike content to be on this list.

Ecovelo
EcoVelo is all about working bikes, at least that’s what I like about it. I think Alan has a Surly Long Haul Trucker as one of his regular rides, so that’s a plus. He has a way of capturing the bike that I just can’t seem to figure out. Check out his sunrise shots to see what I mean. He also reviews gear that is aimed at bike commuters, so even if he’s not sharing pics of bikes, there’s something great to read.

Gnat Likes
Gnat Likes was one of the first photo/bike blogs that I came across. I was searching for info about the Salsa Fargo and found his site. He also rides a Fargo, a common theme I know, and is a good source of info for all things Fargo. Gnat Likes is full of gravel grinding photos and for the past couple of months, snow biking photos. He has a second site called NoDSLRs where he shares his camera knowledge and promotes using smaller cameras, like the Canon S90 or the Lumix GF1.

Path Less Pedaled
Russ and Laura are currently on an epic trip. Luckily Russ is a professional photographer, and a bit of techno geek, so he’s been sharing the trip with us. In addtion to updating their blog and facebook pages, they have been doing webcasts via their iPhone for all their followers. Russ and Laura are both riding Surly Long Haul Truckers on their trip and reviewing different items as they go. Before they left for their trip, I bought my Canon G10 from Russ. I was hoping that some of his talent would rub off on me. It hasn’t yet, but I’m working on it.

Velo Cult
Velo Cult is a shop that appears to sell all things cool. I’ve mentioned them here before, but it bears repeating. My favorite posts of theirs were the trips to the Sierras. They got some amazing B&W shots in Bodie. They look like they went back in time, bringing some important news from Bridgeport to Bodie.

These are the ones that I like. What are your favorite blogs? Post up your favorite bike/photo blogs, let’s see how long this list can get.

This guy is a surly year round commuter. He keeps the posts short, but updates often.
