Thoughts On Training

by Errin on April 26, 2010

As I start down this road of structured training I find myself wondering “Just what have I gotten myself into”. I’m reading “The Cyclist’s Training Bible” and while it is informative, it’s very much over my head. The talk of aerobic versus anerobic versus lactate threshold, followed by glycogen versus carbohydrates is enough to make my head spin. I’m usually pretty proud of what I’ve accomplished without a college education, but reading this book is making me second guess that decision. It’s not this book in particular mind you, but the scientific approach that is the mind blow.

What I am getting out of it though is that it’s not just miles that will get you were you want to go. It’s what you do in those miles, as well as the time you allow yourself to rest. That is something that I hadn’t considered. I had previously thought that a day off was a day wasted. However, now I’m beginning to understand the value of a scheduled rest day(or two).

I’ll get through these chapters and I’m sure it will start to make sense. It has to if I’m going to improve. I’ve got some lofty plans for the rest of the year, so I’ve got to put things in motion now. If I finish reading this book will I qualify for a college degree? I think I’ll have earned it.
