Rapha Festive 500 Begins!

Wow, it’s been a week since I last posted anything. This damn christmas crap has been stressing me out. Serbrina calls me a grinch and I guess she’s right. We get really busy at work as we’re trying to get enough shows delivered so we can get some time off like everybody else. I’d been lazy about riding throughout November, but last week I managed to ride four out of five days last week. That included riding through the rain that’s been hitting us here in LA. I feel like I’m getting back in the grove, and just in time for the New Year too!

Something that’s going to help to motivate me is a challenge from Rapha. The Rapha Festive 500! The challenge is to ride 500k between December 23rd and December 30th. That seems doable, right? Here’s some info from the Rapha blog.

Why not ride everyday of the Christmas week and move into the New Year fit and refueled? As Rapha’s superhuman Graeme Raeburn demonstrated last year, clocking miles over the festive break is possible. He rode over 1000km in a week. See » 1000 Xmas Km. We’re throwing down the gauntlet and challenging you to ride 500km between the 23rd and the 30th December 2010. Rather than let the holidays get the better of you, we want to see riders worldwide taking up the challenge and joining us to ride 500km in a week.

We want you to submit any kind of hard visual evidence, whether it be photographic, Garmin data uploads, illustrations or divorce papers. The most visually engaging or inspirational submission will win our Deep Winter Training Bundle, featuring the new Deep Winter Tights, Winter Jersey and Rapha Overshoes. The first 100 to prove (somehow) they have completed the 500km will receive a limited edition 500km woven badge featured above.

Also, Hope have kindly donated a Vision Two light as an additional prize.

• To submit your entry post a link in the comments box below to where on the internet you will be documenting the evidence. This could be on your blog, Flickr, Vimeo, YouTube, Map My Ride, Garmin Connect, a series of tweets on Twitter, or your Facebook page.
• Alternatively upload images, video and words to our Facebook wall or Twitter:

Well what do you think? 500k over seven days? That doesn’t sound so bad. We’ll see. Anyone want to join me?

  • You know, I thought about it, but between being out of town and the variable road conditions, it’s not going to happen for me. I’ll still ride, but 40 miles feels like 60 or more, in some of the crap we’ve been getting. My hope is to hit 5000 miles for the year. I’m getting close!

    • I hear you. We’ve been getting hit with a lot of rain here lately and it’s been tough just to get out for a ride around the block! We are supposed to dry out for the next week or so though, so I’ll give it a shot. We’ll see how it goes. If nothing else it’ll be a good motivator.

Good luck – I rode my first miles – all 15 of them – last
night, after midnight. Very few cars, a few people sleeping out on
    the sidewalks and bus benches.

    • Thanks! I haven’t turned a pedal yet so you’re doing better than me already.
